PROMYS India

A challenging six-week residential mathematics summer programme at Ashoka University in Sonepat, Haryana, PROMYS India is open to mathematically talented secondary and higher secondary students (Standards IX - XII or equivalent). Meticulously selected students from across India will gather on the campus of Ashoka University to immerse themselves in rigorous mathematics.

In partnership with PROMYS (Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists), and Ashoka University, PROMYS India is closely modelled on its parent programme at Boston University in the United States since 1989.

2020 Summer Programme

It is with great sadness that we must postpone the launch of PROMYS India from summer 2020 to 2021 in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

We were looking forward with great excitement to gathering exceptionally talented students and counsellors for six weeks of exciting mathematics at PROMYS India this May. It breaks our heart that we need to postpone, but health and safety must be our top priority. This is not the time to bring young people from across India into close proximity on the Ashoka University campus and to draw mathematicians from around the world to meet with them.

We were very impressed by the quality and number of the applications received for 2020. We were delighted to see how many applicants exhibited creativity and joyful persistence as well as mathematical skill in their conjectures and solutions to the application problems.

We look forward to PROMYS India 2021 and wish everyone health and safety.

PROMYS India 2021

All students in 2021 will receive a full scholarship covering all costs of participation: tuition, hostel, meals, books, and travel. These full scholarships in 2021 are thanks to the generosity and vision of PROMYS India's founding sponsors: the Nash Family, Indira Foundation and Morph.org.

The dates of PROMYS India 2021 have not yet been finalized.

How Students Describe PROMYS

Our Guiding Principles

Discovery and Exploration
Students at PROMYS India are presented with fundamental mathematical problems for which they have to struggle long and hard to find solutions. The students are given mathematical tools to find solutions for themselves. For the six weeks of PROMYS India, the students are treated as mathematicians.
