PROMYS India

A challenging six-week residential mathematics summer programme, PROMYS India is open to mathematically talented secondary and higher secondary students (Standards IX - XII or equivalent). Meticulously selected students from across India will gather to immerse themselves in rigorous mathematics.

PROMYS India is closely modelled on its parent programme, Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists (PROMYS) which has been running at Boston University in the United States since 1989.

2021 Summer Programme

It is with great sadness that we must postpone the launch of PROMYS India from summer 2021 to summer 2022 in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

We were looking forward with great excitement to gathering exceptionally talented students and counsellors in person for six weeks of exciting mathematics at PROMYS India this May. It breaks our heart that we need to postpone, but health and safety must be our top priority. This is not the time to bring young people from across India into close proximity on a university campus and to draw mathematicians from around the world to meet with them. We look forward to the launch of PROMYS India 2022 and wish everyone health and safety.

PROMYS India

For at least the first year of the programme, all students will receive a full scholarship covering all costs of participation: tuition, hostel, meals, books, and travel. These full scholarships are thanks to the generosity and vision of PROMYS India's founding sponsors: Nick Nash & Phalgun Raju, Avi and Sandra Nash, Indira Foundation, and Morph.org.

The dates of PROMYS India 2022 have not yet been finalized.

How Students Describe PROMYS

Our Guiding Principles

Discovery and Exploration
Students at PROMYS India are presented with fundamental mathematical problems for which they have to struggle long and hard to find solutions. The students are given mathematical tools to find solutions for themselves. For the six weeks of PROMYS India, the students are treated as mathematicians.
